I was asked what the opening sentence of my autobiography would be. As I stated in a previous blog post, at some point in my life I would like to write an autobiography.
Obviously, the autobiography would have to have an opening sentence. What would that be?
“A life, although finite, has endless possibilities.”
The opening sentence of my autobiography
That sentence, I believe, would be the starting point of my autobiography. The sentence expresses the truth about human life. That is, life has endless possibilities.
At each moment in life, we have a choice to make. As I write this blog post, I know what I am doing. I know that I am using the moments this evening to craft a few short paragraphs that I hope people would read. I could, instead, watch television, or listen to music, or perhaps go out for a beautiful drive. Furthermore, I could engage myself in the kitchen and cook a delicious new dish, or perhaps read a few chapters from a book. But I have decided to write this blog post. The possibilities are endless, and I have made a conscious choice.
Every action we perform and every word we speak take us in a certain direction in life. At every step, we are deciding what direction we want to walk in in life. In doing so, we are forgoing other possibilities that could take us in different directions.
We are limited in what we can do. Our life is finite, and we are prisoners of time. However, we must recognize the endless possibilities in life.
God has made us children of nature, and has granted us skills, talents, and the power to make decisions and judgements. We can either use our God-given gifts to do good things in life, or we can waste our resources and energy, The choice is ours.
My autobiography is yet to be written. The manuscript is yet to be crafted. But as I face the question of what the first sentence of my autobiography would be, I must say that the answer is: “A life, although finite, has endless possibilities.”
