Will I ever write an autobiography? I hope so. At some point in my life, I plan to write an autobiography. When that would be, I do not know yet. If I write an autobiography, what would be the title of the manuscript?
Writing an autobiography is no easy task. It requires self-reflection and a thorough examination of many events–big and small–of one’s life. Furthermore, writing an autobiography requires one to be critical of one’s own self. In the process of reviewing the life, a writer must be true to oneself. That is, the one writing the autobiography must recognize errors made in life and admit one’s mistakes. A life worth writing about would, undoubtedly, would include a discussion of flaws and the lessons that one learned.
An autobiography would also include times when the writer became victim of deception. It would include times when the author faced trauma. An autobiography would include stories of recovery, tales of healing, and it would present to the readers a map that one walked on to fight the odds and to be stronger than ever before. The manuscript would discuss accounts of sorrow and also paint a picture of uplifting moments of one’s life.
An autobiography would talk about success, as well as failure. It must, with certainty, contain the truth. The writer must pursue the truth, recognize the truth, and embrace the truth. Only then, the person can write the truth.
Not everyone can write an autobiography. Not everyone would have an interest in doing so. But to those who conceive the idea of writing a manuscript on one’s life and publishing it, let me tell you, it is perhaps one of the most challenging projects in life.
Now back to the question in the title. Will I ever write an autobiography? Yes, I believe so. What would be the title of the manuscript? The answer is: it is yet to be determined.
