When studying and analyzing geopolitical issues, it is hard to make predictions, especially when the matter involves a brutal dictator who is using force to hold on to power. So, I cannot conclusively say whether Nicolas Maduro will step down from power. But I believe that Maduro does not have a lot of options, and the wise decision for him would be to deport from his position.
Nicolas Maduro continues to be in office as the president of Venezuela through coercion, not through free and fair election. Maduro continues to suppress the rights and freedom of the people of Venezuela. The brutal dictator has inflicted a lot of pain and suffering on the people of this South American nation.
I am happy to see President Trump deploying military resources in the region to send a message to Maduro that his authoritarian regime may be in a lot of trouble. As the days go by, the Trump administration is increasing pressure on Maduro and his allies.
Most recently, in a dramatic show of force, the United States has seized a big Venezuelan oil tanker. One might easily call this an escalation. I believe it is a very necessary step in forcing Maduro to depart from power.
As the United States seized Venezuela’s oil tanker, there are now questions about what more the Trump administration could do to cut off the resources of the Maduro regime.
Venezuela is obviously not alone. Maduro has backers, which is why he continues to stay in power. Most notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his support for Maduro in a recent phone call. Of course, this is not a surprise given the fact that Russia’s interests are aligned with Venezuela’s.
It is time for all political analysts, commentators, foreign policy experts, economists, and others with an interest in international relations to closely observe the geopolitical events of the next few days, weeks, and months.
I am curious to see if Nicolas Maduro steps down from power or not. I believe that he will have to depart from his position of authority, very soon.
