After a promising performance by the United States team in the FIFA World Cup 2026, I believe it is time for our country to prioritize soccer and train more athletes in this sport.
Soccer is a global sport. A successful international tournament, such as the FIFA World Cup 2026, brings many countries together. Regardless of race, religion, color of the skin, or age, people engage in watching, discussing, enjoying, and celebrating soccer. This sport has the largest audience in the world.
In the United States, soccer is still not the number one sport. Sports like American football and basketball rank higher in popularity.
However, soccer has recently seen an increase in popularity. In fact, this sport has overtaken baseball in popularity.
Last year, I had written in a blog post that FIFA World Cup 2026 would be the greatest tournament in history. Now that the sporting event is over, I believe that I was right. The FIFA World Cup 2026 boosted soccer’s fame in our country. The rise in tourism, because of the tournament, has drawn the general public’s attention to this sport.
The economic impact of the FIFA World Cup is very large. And the impact of the tournament on the hearts and minds of the American people is much bigger. American children, who saw the World Cup matches in the stadium or on TV, will look at soccer in a much different way than the older generations. Their interest in the sport will be much stronger. And that interest will be translated into action as they will seek opportunities to participate in playing soccer.
I believe that there is tremendous potential for soccer to become the top sport in the United States. Therefore, schools, colleges, and sporting clubs in the United States should prioritize and promote soccer and invest in training the younger generation to be soccer players.
I believe that with enough focus, attention, planning, investment, and resources, the United States can become one of the best soccer-playing nations in the world. Our country’s young athletes have an amazing future in soccer.
