Sheikh Hasina may finally face justice for all the crimes that she committed. With the court verdict expected to come soon, people are hoping to see this violent dictator sentenced to the highest possible punishment allowed by the court of law in Bangladesh.
Sheikh Hasina, for over a decade and a half, had held on to power as the Prime Minister in Bangladesh. She did so not by fair means and popular vote, but through corruption and coercion.
The Awami League regime of Sheikh Hasina suppressed free speech. The Hasina administration engaged in extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances to target political opposition. They weaponized the justice system in Bangladesh to crush any critical voices.
The Awami League regime violated people’s property rights. Political leaders, activists, and government officials associated with Awami League forcefully grabbed people’s lands and homes.
My family and I, too, are victims of Sheikh Hasina’s brutal regime. Our property rights have also been violated by the extremely corrupt and dangerous party of Sheikh Hasina.
I have written many emails and had many conversations with lawyers, spent large sums of money on legal fees, and experienced countless hours finding ways to secure our inheritance and to protect our property rights in the country in which I was born—Bangladesh.
The corrupt Awami League regime blocked our paths. All conversations ended in hopelessness. The legal avenues to seek justice did not seem to lead to any fruitful outcome.
In all those years when she held the title of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina created a wide network of collaborators who infiltrated every part of society to spread the seeds of corruption.
Sheikh Hasina’s administration murdered countless people. They abducted and threw many innocent people into secret prisons for months and years. The rest lived in fear of the Awami League regime.
In July of 2024, members of Generation Z led a massive uprising in Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina had no option but to step down from power. In August of 2024, Hasina fled from the country. This brutal dictator sought and received refuge in India.
Now, it is time for Sheikh Hasina to face justice. The verdict is imminent. The people of Bangladesh are eagerly waiting to see the court of law finally ensure justice. Furthermore, observers from all over the world are waiting to see this ruthless dictator sentenced in accordance with the laws of Bangladesh. Sheikh Hasina’s crimes include committing genocide.
There is, however, a crucial aspect of this matter that must be addressed. Sheikh Hasina is still in India, hiding from the consequences of her actions.
People believe that the Bangladeshi court will deliver a verdict to convict Sheikh Hasina for her crimes. Hasina will likely face capital punishment. To truly ensure justice, Hasina must be extradited from India and brought back to Bangladesh.
