There seems to be frequent news, from around the country, about aggressive dogs attacking humans. It is time to strengthen laws to hold dog owners responsible in the event of a dog attack.
The safety of human beings, from children to senior citizens, must be the highest priority. It is shocking to hear about reported cases of careless pet owners whose aggressive dogs caused severe and even life-threatening harm to people in the community. Aggressive dogs, such as pit bulls, have been known to attack their owners too. In fact, President Biden’s German shepherd dog has also bitten and injured people.
Dogs such as pit bulls, German shepherds, and rottweilers do not belong in the hands of careless owners. These dogs, along with some other large and vicious dogs, have been known to cause physical harm to people.
It is time for elected officials to strengthen laws to ensure that careless dog owners are held liable for harm caused by their pets. There must be strong penalties imposed on negligent dog owners.
I’m tired of German Shepherds and Pit Bulls being demonized. I’ve owned German Shepherds most of my life. Without exception they’ve been very stable and extremely friendly dogs. On the other hand, I’ve encountered on occasion difficult and even antagonistic dogs of varied breeds. As a Wisconsin farm kid, I learned how to train dogs and handle dogs and dog situations very well including other large breed dogs. Bottom line, it’s not the breed, it’s how the dog is trained and managed. I don’t know what additional laws you’re looking for. Are you seeking that only certain individuals can have a dog? Dog attacks are already handled in the civil courts.
Hi Fred, thanks for your comment. I think German shepherds are great dogs, but they need to be trained and be taken care of by responsible dog owners. I listed a few breeds that I believe need a lot of attention and care, because of lot of cases of dog attacks pertain to rottweilers and pit bulls and some of the other larger breeds. Recently, I have seen some really severe cases in the news, pertaining to dogs attacking humans. That’s what prompted me to write this blog post. Also, I think I should mention that I have never owned a dog.
