When I came to the United States, from Bangladesh, I had the freedom to choose any place in the country as my new home. I could choose any city, town or village, in any state in America. I was fortunate to have the freedom to choose.
I decided that the city of Madison would be my home. I attended the University of Wisconsin – Madison, completing my undergraduate and graduate degrees. And I continued to live in Madison. This is my home.
It was a big decision I made, as I travelled from one part of the world to another. From Bangladesh in Asia, I arrived in the United States in North America. And, I made Madison, Wisconsin, my home.
Madison is the heart of the state government in Wisconsin. The city has a lot to offer. There are excellent health care providers, great options for higher education, nice places to shop, a wide variety of restaurants and cafes, beautiful neighborhoods, magnificent lakes, and so much more.
Are there ways that this city can be improved? Absolutely! I believe that the biggest challenge that Madison faces is the rise in crime. I am deeply concerned about the prevalence of crime in the city, as I expressed in a letter to the editor that I wrote last year. Fighting crime should be the top priority for Madison’s elected officials.
I want to see the city of Madison continue to be the best place to live in America. And for that, it is important to combat crime and enhance public safety.
