When I first visited Chicago, I instantly developed a strong liking for the city. It has all the features that a big city should have. While some believe that Chicago traffic makes it challenging to drive, I think that it is a common feature of any large, populated city. For me, it is fairly easy to navigate the busy roads of Chicago because I am originally from the city of Dhaka, which is the most densely populated city in the world.
Many people around the world wish to visit Chicago for work and pleasure. It is an important destination for business, education, and tourism.
However, simply ranking high on a list is not enough. Those living in Chicago or visiting the Windy City are facing growing challenges due to rise in crime.
Reportedly, a total of 55 people were shot over the weekend, in Chicago. In 2021, there were 797 homicides in Chicago – more than any other city in the United States. As a result of the rise in violent crimes, many businesses are leaving Chicago and are relocating to other places in the country.
As a resident of Wisconsin, I have always enjoyed visiting Chicago. However, I am losing interest in driving to Chicago because of the prevalence of crime. I am sure I am not the only one who is avoiding visiting Chicago because of the rise in criminal activities in the city.
Public safety must be the number one priority for any big city. When people and property are safe, then a city can truly thrive and be successful. In Chicago, there is clearly a severe crisis because of widespread crime.
While it is exciting to see a Midwestern city being recognized as the second-best city in the world, one cannot overlook the prevalence of crime in Chicago. The elected officials in Chicago must work with law enforcement agencies to combat crime in the city.
