Some say that a massive war may break out soon. That war, some believe, might be big enough to be called World War III.
How likely is it that we might see the start of World War III, involving multiple countries across continents?
We like to hope that there will not be a World War III. We expect peace to prevail and be long-lasting. However, the fear of World War III is present. And as time goes by, it seems more likely that the start of a global war is approaching.
At present, there are major forces actively engaged in trying to prevent the onset of a big war. There are actors trying to ensure peace. And yet, peace is extremely difficult to achieve. And once achieved, peace is hard to hold on to. Peace can be fragile, ready to shatter into pieces. Calmness can be lost easily. Commotion and conflicts can start and then devolve into great geopolitical crises.
We have seen in recent years how easy it is for battlefields to get heated. The world has seen how hunger for land, power, and greater economic influence can result in armed clashes.
Look, for example, at the Ukraine-Russia War. We still do not know when that war will end. But what we do know is that the impacts of a war go far beyond the battlefield.
When a war breaks out, there are adverse effects on trade, transportation, and supply chain. Other nations also suffer, as a result of a war between two countries. And yet, armed conflicts continue to take place around the world.
And therefore, there are many who make grim predictions about the commencement of World War III. The gloomy outlook must not be disregarded, especially after seeing how tensions have risen in various parts of the world in recent years, such as the ongoing problems between Thailand and Cambodia.
Reportedly, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has warned countries in the alliance that Russia could be hostile towards Europe. This has caused severe concerns among our European allies.
Of course, European countries are already dealing with various problems because of Russia’s actions. There have been several instances of Russian drones violating the airspace of European countries. And if such aggressive behavior by Russia continues, then the European countries will be compelled to ramp up their defenses even further.
Speaking about the ongoing Ukraine-Russia War, President Donald Trump has also said that things like this “end up in third world wars.”
And it is not just the war between Ukraine and Russia and the rising tension in Europe. The Indo-Pacific region is also seeing heightened tensions. There are other conflicts, big and small, in other parts of the world.
When all matters are considered, it does appear that in spite of peace efforts, there is tremendous fear about the possibility of a new world war.
As such, the peacemakers must work even harder to ensure that another world war does not take place. People across the globe cannot afford World War III.
