RUSSIAN DRONES IN POLAND AND NATO’S RESPONSE

This week, Russian drones were detected in Poland’s airspace. This does not seem to be an accident or a mistake. Quite likely, it was a calculated move by Russia to provoke a North American Treaty Organization (NATO) country. Such an act by Russia is unacceptable, and I believe that NATO must respond with strength.

Sending drones into Poland’s airspace was a very aggressive move by Russia. Therefore, it has caused widespread fear and panic.

Poland is a sovereign nation, and the Polish people have the right to live in peace. But Russia’s latest action has disturbed the peace in this European country. Furthermore, other European countries are also alarmed by Russia’s hostile action.

Thankfully, Poland successfully shot down the drones. But this recent incident raises questions about Vladimir Putin’s plans and motives, especially after the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

With President Donald J. Trump in office, the United States of America has shown tremendous leadership in strengthening NATO. As a result, the NATO countries are very united, now more than ever.

NATO is becoming more and more powerful. As a matter of fact, the NATO countries have committed to increasing defense spending to 5 percent of Gross Domestic Product. In the longer run, increasing defense spending would help bolster the strength and stability of this alliance.

The United States of America and the allies in Europe want to pursue peace, and peace must be achieved through strength. As such, NATO must respond to reckless and provocative actions by other countries.

Not taking strong action to counter Russia’s aggressive maneuvers would embolden Vladimir Putin and his authoritarian regime. Hence, swift and decisive action by NATO is necessary.

I believe that NATO must show its power by responding strongly to Russia’s offensive move, to ensure that Russia does not repeat such behavior.
