HOW THE SEASONS TRANSFORM US

Heraclitus, the ancient philosopher, said that no man can step into the same river twice, because everything is in a state of flux. With each passing moment, things change, including the river.

Each day, we are subject to transformation. Each season, we change. No two summers are the same. No two winters are the same.

As I look outside, I see the ground covered with snow. After many days of gloomy weather, the sun is out today. The rays of the sun arrive on earth, and rest on the bright layer of snow.

Just a few months ago, it was warm. Just a few months from now, it hopefully will be warm again. But as we pass through the month of December, we must accept what Nature has given us – chilly winds and abundant snow. In the process of continuous transformation, winter plays a big role.

December is the month for pensive mood, as the seasons change, and the year approaches the finish line. This month makes me thoughtful as I reflect on the things that are now in the past. I also think about what lies ahead for us. People’s minds are full of anticipation, and their hearts full of hope. What the new year will bring, no one knows, and yet we must dream.

To have the willingness and the ability to reflect on the past is a blessing, because one who does not understand the past can never move forward. The actions that we have performed would push us forward into the future. The seeds that we have sown would give rise to the trees that bear fruits.

Changing seasons may be challenging, as we are forced to adapt to the changes. But this transformation is beneficial, as it helps us mature and gain more wisdom. As the seasons change, we learn more about ourselves, and about the world that we live in.
